George Michael Cancelled Tour

George Michael's management says he has canceled all his remaining 2011 tour dates as he recovers from pneumonia.
A statement says the 48-year-old “is responding to treatment and slowly improving.”
The statement issued Friday says Michael “is ill with pneumonia and any other speculation regarding his illness is unfounded and untrue.”
Michael was hospitalized in Vienna earlier this week, and canceled shows in Vienna, Strasbourg, France, and Cardiff, Wales.
The Austrian doctors treating Michael say he has “severe community acquired pneumonia” but “his condition has stabilized and he is responding to treatment.”

Your First Concert Do You Recall? AC/DC Fastway 1983 Was Mine

Wow my first concert for me was way back in 1983.Was the band Fast way and AC/DC at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. I at the time was only 13 years old and feeling slightly intimidated from the crowd back then you could smoke inside the Arena so it was filled with cigarette smoke and the smell of Weed everywhere. It was AC/DC Flick of the switch tour I remember Angus Young the guitarist starting the show on top of the arena. And the people went crazy seems like yesterday. Since then I can honestly say been to about one hundred concerts in my life. Big part of me that will never end I love the live experience. Post your first concerts tell me about it

Rolling Stones Together For First Time In Years

The Rolling Stones are getting back to work. Keith Richards has confirmed plans for the band to meet in London later this month, rehearsing for the first time in "three or four years". While three of the four members are planning to attend, Richards said, Mick Jagger has still not given his RSVP.

"We're just going to play a little together," Richards told Rolling Stone magazine. "You don't necessarily want to rehearse or write anything – you just want to touch bases. That's a good start: me, Charlie and Ronnie. Mick's welcome, and I'm sure he'll turn up, but right now we just want to get our chops down."

Although the Rolling Stones will celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2012, a feud has grown between Richards and Jagger since the publication of the guitarist's memoir, Life. In his book, Richards calls Jagger "unbearable" and makes fun of his "tiny todger". "I used to love Mick, but I haven't been to his dressing room in 20 years," Richards writes. Sometimes I think, 'I miss my friend'. I wonder, 'Where did he go?'" Jagger later called the book "tedious" and "a bit bitchy".

Worse, Jagger was rumoured to have put the brakes on a 2011 tour. "Everybody's ready to go out there again," Richards said last November. A band spokesman later denied plans for a tour. Jagger meanwhile recorded album with SuperHeavy, a supergroup featuring Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, Damian Marley and AR Rahman.

In an interview with the Observer this Sunday, the Stones talked to Elizabeth Day about the possibility of a 50th-anniversary tour. Opinion differered between band members. Ronnie Wood spoke of having a foot operation next month in case a tour transpired: "50 years! It's got to be done." Richards was also enthusiastic, saying he dreamed of it, but Charlie Watts said he wasn't bothered either way. As for Jagger, he was keeping his cards close to his chest: "I have no idea. We don't really get together that much as a group."by sean michaels

In addition to the expanded Exile on Main Street, released last year, a deluxe edition of Some Girls is due on 21 November. The Rolling Stones' last album was 2005's A Bigger Bang.

Michael Jackson Making Money After Death

Michael Jackson's estate has earned $250 million dollars in the year since his death, proving the "King of Pop" is still reigning at the top of the charts.

The estate's co-executors, John Branca and John McClain, say the estate has made a dramatic turn-around since Jackson died on June 25, 2009 when the estate was more than $500 million in debt.

They have been able to pay off $70 million in debt, including the $5 million mortgage on the Jackson family compound in Encino.by ktla news

The interest payments on the remaining debt are now covered by a steady flow of cash.

Experts say the money making deals made after Jackson's death will likely be bigger than the money that could have been made by the comeback concerts he had planned.

The deals include:

-- The sale of unreleased Jackson recordings with Sony Music which has guaranteed $200 million over seven years. It has already brought $125 million to the estate.

-- The film "This Is It," based on his final concert rehearsal footage, grossed $252 million worldwide. Sony Pictures paid the estate $60 million in advance, with an undisclosed amount more to come from DVD sales.

-- Licensing deals on merchandise sold by Universal Music Group's Bravado unit and a new dance game by Ubisoft Entertainment brought in $26 million in advances. More is possible if unit sales are high.

-- The Mijac Music catalog of copyrights, on songs that Jackson wrote, generated $25 million in the past year, thanks to heavy airplay on radio stations and song and album sales.

-- Music publisher Sony/ATV, the copyright holder of the Beatles' and other artists' songs, posted double-digit percentage revenue gains in the year through March. That netted Jackson's estate, which owns a 50 percent stake, $11 million.

-- Other income, including from a rerelease of Jackson's autobiography, "Moon Walk," and sales of commemorative tickets to his canceled concerts, brought in another $25 million.

The tally does not include a deal with Cirque du Soleil for shows inspired by Jackson's music, in which the estate will share half the costs and profits when the performances begin in late 2011. Nor does it account for a deal in the works to nearly double the estate's income from Sony/ATV. That cash goes to pay down most of Jackson's remaining debt.

Co-executor Branca, Jackson's longtime lawyer and business manager, told the Associated Press "We're doing the things that Michael would have wanted."

Overdue bills are being paid, including $341,452 in legal fees owed to Thomas Mesereau, the attorney who successfully defended Jackson in his 2005 child molestation trial.

Earnings could flow into Jackson's estate for decades.

Sony Music says more than 31 million Jackson albums have sold worldwide since he died. With 8.3 million albums sold in the U.S., Michael Jackson was the top-selling artist in 2009.

In 2010, Jackson songs have been played on American radio stations 140,000 times, about 10 times the pace before he died, according to Nielsen.

Nearly a million Jackson albums have sold this year and a new album of unreleased material is set to hit stores in November, roughly in tandem with a new video game in which fans can mimic his signature moves.

Tour Manager for U2's 360 Tour Talks Challenges With Tour

Jake Berry, a tour producer with more than thirty years of experience, describes leading the U2 360° Tour as the most difficult, and rewarding, project he's ever undertaken. "It was the longest production load out that I've ever experienced in 30 years. I've had breakfast on a load out, but I've never had lunch."
The 360° Tour was the biggest and most profitable tour ever completed, bringing in over $736M, hitting a total attendance of 7,268,430, and running for over two years. The tour's physical presence was equally gargantuan, a massive four-pronged construction reminiscent of an alien that weighed 400 tons. "People stop on the highway to take a picture of this alien ship landing in a small, sleep Belgian town was pretty fun. And then moving it for the first time..."
Below, Berry talks to Billboard about the difficulties and rewards of the massive undertaking, and being "sad to see it end."by billboard staff

"Pink Floyd" Reunion is Still Unlikely As Ever

A full-on Pink Floyd reunion between David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Roger Waters appears to have stalled because the band's leaders have failed to keep in touch following a trio of unexpected get togethers in recent years.

Waters and Gilmour put aside their long-running feud and reunited onstage after 24 years at the Live 8 concert in London in 2005, and they have since performed together again for a low-key charity show and during Waters' The Wall spectacular in the British capital earlier this year.

But Gilmour insists fans who are hoping for a full-scale reunion are praying for something that is unlikely to happen.

Asked if he and Waters have a better relationship these days during a new Rolling Stone magazine interview, the guitar great says, "You would think so, yeah... but it's almost non-existent. I played on Roger's Wall show here (in London) one night a few months ago, and I haven't heard a word from him since."

And he's convinced a reunion tour will never happen: "Roger spent a lot of time after (Live 8) saying how he would roll over gracefully for that one occasion, but it wouldn't happen again, which strengthened my views.

"I understand how other people want that sort of thing (reunion) to happen, but I'm entirely selfish in thinking that I want to enjoy my declining years exactly the way that I want to... And that wouldn't be part of it."

But drummer Mason is refusing to give up on a reunion: "I think it's one of those things where I'm not quite ready to say it doesn't exist anymore... It might be I'm a sad person and just can't let go of something, but it's just that feeling that, you know, who knows?

"I suppose I live in hope that there might be another Live Aid or something like that. I don't seriously expect anyone to suddenly announce that we should get back into studios and knock out an album. I'm quite keen on not saying it's all over. It's partly to do with me hating the idea of conceding any sort of retirement. I've always held the door open.

"I absolutely know that David wouldn't want to do anything at present but, you know, people change. In a year's time, a few years' time, whatever."by star pulse

Still No Answers In Jani Lane's Death

An autopsy on rocker Jani Lane has revealed no conclusive cause of death, an L.A. County coroner's official said Friday.
That leaves family, friends and fans of the former Warrant singer to wait on results of toxicology and other tests that will, according to Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter, come in over the next two months or so.
Lane, 47, was pronounced dead early Thursday evening after paramedics found him unresponsive in a hotel room in Woodland Hills, far from his Redondo Beach home. A half-bottle of alcohol and prescription medications were found in the hotel room where he died, though police officials said there was no indication that the father of two girls had intentionally taken his own life.
A cause of death similarly in limbo is that of 27-year-old singer Amy Winehouse, found dead July 23, whose autopsy yielded no clear answers. In that case, Winehouse's family reportedly believes sudden withdrawal from alcohol will be revealed as the culprit after toxicology and other tests results are returned.
Lane, whose lead-singer relationship with Warrant was on-again, off-again, wrote hits for the hair-metal band including "Heaven," "Cherry Pie" and "Down Boys." Warrant's first two albums -- "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich" in 1989 and "Cherry Pie" in 1990 -- both went double-platinum. Lane first left the band in 1992, but returned years later.
"We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Jani's passing," the band said Friday on its website, also posting a concert video of Lane performing "Heaven," embedded below.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Jani was a very important part of our lives for a long time.
We will always be incredibly proud of the music we created together. He was a true talent and will be missed by all of us."

Eminem's 'Southpaw' Boxing Movie Back On Track

Talk about an epic battle. Eminem has been circling the gritty boxing drama "Southpaw" for more than a year now. But it seemed like the rapper's second feature film was down for the count when its original distributor, DreamWorks, shelved it in August.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the scrappy tale of a welterweight boxer who becomes a champ despite being a lefty has gotten off the mat and is back in contention.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has picked up the flick, which would be Marshall Mathers' first major movie role since his acclaimed debut in the semi-autobiographical 2002 drama "8 Mile." The movie is expected to start production early next year and will be directed by Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day"), from a script written by Em and "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter.

Like "8 Mile," Eminem says the tale is a parallel to his own life: the story of a boxer who rises to the top only to see tragedy strike, forcing him to mount a personal and professional comeback. Em famously reached the pinnacle of rap fame in the early 2000s, only to fall into a nearly fatal spiral of drug addiction, which he later snapped, getting clean and releasing a triumphant comeback album, Recovery, in 2010.

Eminem has done a few cameos since "8 Mile," including the Adam Sandler movie "Funny People" and HBO's "Entourage," but has not headlined a movie since his screen debut.

He was recently named a "God of Rock' by GQ magazine, which put him on the cover alongside Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and Lil Wayne.
by mtvblog
"I've realized that the way I am helps with the music," he said about the natural personality quirks that fuel his music. "Sporadic thoughts will pop into my head, and I'll have to go write something down, and the next thing you know, I've written a whole song in an hour. But sometimes it sucks, and I wish I was wired like a regular person and could go have a f---in' drink. But that's the biggest thing about addiction: When you realize that you cannot — for f---'s sake, you cannot — f--- around with nothing ever again."

Stevie Ray Vaughn Memories

It was a Sunday night, in the Autumn of 1983. The show was supposed to start at 9:00 p.m., but was late getting going.

The venue is no more than a cinder block bar tucked away in a Greyhound bus station. The legendary Dayton club was packed, as I think the other 199 folks had the same curiosity I did.

Who was this Vaughan fella really? Was he the no name player in one of David Bowie's theatrical approach to music, or was he the lay it down Texas Blues Strat burner behind the song that was starting to get some airplay?

Either way, no one seemed to mind the two and a half hour delay to begin the show.

The house lights went down at 11:30 and the joint was ablaze for two solid hours. The three piece band was rippin' it up like I had never witnessed. All the songs from Texas Flood, a few Hendrix tunes, and a handful of other classic Blues songs I recognized.

SRV lived up to the buzz and then some as it became quickly apparent that he loved what he did, and he loved showing it to the world.

But the frail physique, hauntingly pale face, and the black hat pulled forward to shade his eyes also told another story. I swore then that he was on horse (heroine). As it turns out, I wasn't exactly wrong.

This was the first song that made Stevie his own man. He didn't belong to anyone else. In fact, he had his own band, Double Trouble, comprised of Tommy Shannon on bass and "Whipper" Layton on drums.

The Who Support Teen Cancer at LA Hospital

Two members of the British rock band The Who have launched a program for teens and young adults with cancer.

Roger Daltrey and Peter Townshend pledged Friday to raise money to renovate part of the Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center pediatric floor into a separate space for patients ages 15 to 25.

Townshend was unable to appear in person in Los Angeles, but sent in a video message.

The effort is being supported by other celebrities including Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin. The goal is to create rooms clustered around a common lounge area where young cancer patients can hang out with one another.

Several hospitals across the country including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia already have dedicated spaces for teen cancer patients.

Growing Concert Ticket Sales Results Above Expectations

Live Nation’s increase in ticket prices didn’t deter many people from going to see concerts in 3Q. The company reported net earnings of $13.3M, up from a $32.8M loss in the same period last year, on revenues of $1.56B, up 23.1%. Profits at 7 cents a share beat the 2 cents expected by analysts who follow the company. The Street also fell short in forecasting just $1.32B in revenues. The company says that 13.1M people attended 5,834 events sponsored by Live Nation; last year it had 12.3M people at 5,558 events. Although concert revenues were up, this year’s events were less profitable: Live Nation made up for that with big increases in earnings from its Artist Nation talent-management unit and tour sponsorships. Meanwhile, Ticketmaster sold $2.1B worth of tickets, up 15.7%. “We are seeing the global ticketing business stabilize and concert business grow year-over-year, and we remain optimistic about continue growth opportunities in the industry long term,” says CEO Michael Rapino. Live Nation shares are up 5.4% in after-hours trading after falling 6.4% during the day.

Sammy Hagar Says Van Halen Used Michael Anthony Tapes On Tour

There’s no love lost between Sammy Hagar and the Van Halen brothers, which is evident pretty much every time the Red Rocker speaks.

Hagar’s latest rant about his former bandmates may be as much about them as it is Sammy standing up for his pal, ex-VH and now Chickenfoot bassist Michael Anthony.

By all appearances, and by the words of both Anthony and Hagar in recent years, Michael was kicked out of VH for being friends with Sammy at a time when the brothers weren’t working and he was, eventually inviting the bassist to join him on the road, earning the ire of both Eddie and Alex.

UG plus: remove banner

That move led to a serious pay cut for Anthony on the 2004 VH reunion tour with Hagar, who wouldn’t do the trip if Michael wasn’t involved (Eddie reportedly didn’t want him along). Further, Anthony says he was forced by the VH brothers to sign over his rights to future earnings from the band as... what... retribution for wanting to play live music with someone they deemed as the "enemy"?

Anthony was replaced by Eddie’s son, Wolfgang, who toured with VH in 2007/08 on the band’s reunion trek with David Lee Roth... and is reportedly on the forthcoming VH album.

Now, in a new interview with Attention Deficit Delirium, Hagar accuses VH of using Anthony’s talents on the road, even after they unceremoniously dismissed him and his contributions to the group and its legacy.

"Those vocal harmonies on the last tour were Mike on tape," asserted Hagar. "Mike should've reamed them for it. Wolfie don’t sing like that, and Ed sure as hell don’t. Go on the Internet and listen to Ed’s voice live from the reunion with me. Hear him sing on 'When It's Love' and some of those songs. Ed can’t sing, and his voice is shot if he can, from cigarettes and booze anyway."

Sammy didn’t stop there.

"I just don’t see Van Halen getting together again," said the Red Rocker. "I don’t know what would have to happen for it to happen. I don’t think they’re ever going to get together with Dave. They’ve been working on that record for a year and a half or whatever, and they keep postponing and postponing it. I just know that Wolfie, Dave and Ed are not the Van Halen that the world wants to see. To do it with David without Mike was a horrible decision, but those guys haven’t made a good decision since I left the band. I don’t think so. It’s not about me, I just think that they really burned Mikey and burned the fans by throwing him out before Dave came back finally."

Still no word from the VH camp on when the new album will be released.

Thanks for the report to HenneMusic.com.
